Ever since the Denver Broncos selected Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick, Broncos Country has been getting a steady IV drip of positive reports surrounding the former Oregon Duck.
The latest of these rumblings comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who said Philip Rivers was wowed by Nix while working with him and now-Patriot Drake Maye during the pre-draft process.
“One of the people that [Sean Payton] called in advance (of the draft) was Philip Rivers, who was working with Drake Maye and Bo Nix down in Alabama,” Schefter reported on his podcast. “And Philip Rivers really was impressed with Drake Maye, but Philip Rivers was really impressed with Bo Nix. He’s like, ‘Sean, this guy can spin it,’ and ‘Sean, this guy’s bigger than I thought,’ and ‘Sean, this guy’s a better quarterback than I thought.’ So I think Sean Payton and the rest of the Broncos are thinking, ‘wait, whoa whoa. Philip Rivers is working with this guy here (Nix), down in Alabama, and he sees what we see,’ which led them to go into the tape and break down all of the throws even more, and by the time the draft rolled around . . . Sean Payton felt the same way about Bo Nix that he did about Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft.”
Some in Broncos Country may cringe at the idea of one of their most despised figures endorsing the franchise’s new quarterback, but no matter Rivers’ AFC West past, the fact such an accomplished quarterback spent so much time with Nix and a clear top-five pick, and came away feeling Nix was superior, is certainly a positive sign for the Denver Broncos.
