For the first time since 1997, the Denver Broncos will get a completely new set of uniforms, which the team will wear for the next five years.
Already, this reveal seems almost as controversial as the decision to start Teddy Bridgewater over Drew Lock in 2021.
With that in mind, it seemed like the perfect time to ask our Let’s Talk Broncos staff, as well as an informed and opinionated fan, what they think of the new duds.
Joey Richards (@JRDrafts): They’re good but the right answer was in front of their face.
In fact, they even released the ones everybody wanted and it’s a shame we’ll only get them in a limited capacity. They should have been the full-time design.
Frankie Abbott (@FrankiesFilm): I’d say they’re a solid 4/10 with the potential to grow.
The Broncos have had the same uniforms since I was a lad and change is frightening. These uniforms feel less unique and much more “Madden create a team”. When they stick to a solid color I think the uniforms are fine, when they mix and match they look like the Looney Tunes.
The throwbacks are perfect. Almost upsettingly good when one remembers they’ll only be worn once or twice a season.
Robby Davis (@Robby_NFL): Personally, I didn’t see the need to redesign their 1997-2023 uniforms, and the all navy look from that time is one of my favorite sports jerseys of all time, but I feel they did the team, new era, and culture of Denver justice.
The different combinations look clean and I like how they subtly pay homage to the area without putting it all over the uniform boldly. Not a big fan of the new navy shade but, overall, they look really clean.
Carter Dillon (@CarterDillon14): Love them, it’s a great small shakeup without going too far overboard. They have many elements that include the state of Colorado, and that’s something I love. Plus, they did this while also bringing back the throwbacks. They crushed it, in my opinion
Patrick Chiotti (@PatrickChiotti): The modern refresh of the Broncos jerseys have a healthy mix of ‘sweet’ and ‘meh’.
Personally, I like the refresh for the most part. The new look gives the team a different identity, something which has been needed for quite some time. As the team changed ownership, brought in a new head coach who has a mission of shifting the culture, the new uniforms hopefully will start off a new era of Broncos football.
The subtle pieces of the jerseys with the triangles in the numbers to represent Colorado’s breathtaking elevation, the 5280 on the helmets and pants (an obvious one), and the stripes on the shoulders to look like a mountain peak (and keep an homage to the last uniform set with the sharp, angled point) are nice touches.
The orange and white jerseys are definitely my favorite of the group, but I do wish the Navy looked a bit better.
Obviously, the throwback uniforms have been HIGHLY in-demand by the fanbase all offseason, and they absolutely nailed that look.
Excited to see them on-field!
Jason Bishop (@JasonBishopNFL): Overall, the team missed the mark. There’s no single aspect of the jerseys to hate, but they are overall very bland and uninteresting to me.
There’s so much going on yet they still feel very boring. A lot of the color combos don’t work and the 5280 is not a good look. The throwbacks are awesome, as expected, and I’m not sure why they weren’t the full time jerseys.
Jacob Romano (@JTR_14): I can appreciate that they tried to go with their own unique look, and I actually do like the general color scheme that they went for, but I personally feel like a lot of the colors are sort of mismatched.
The alternate pairings of the white jersey with dark pants and colored jerseys with white pants do not mesh well and I feel like the helmet is just a shade too dark. I also think it’s strange that they’re trying to pair the white helmet with anything but the white jerseys.
Overall, if they stick with the orange/orange white/white and blue/blue ones on the top row, they’ll grow on everyone in my opinion. The white/blue, blue/white, and white/orange combos are confusing though.
Zach Segars (@Zach_Segars): Once I got over the fact the Denver Broncos passed up the obvious right answer, I became a fan of the new look.
That might be colored by the fact I’ve been begging for an update on the dated late-90s for at least a half-decade and my low expectations for Nike, but there’s still a lot to like with the current look.
The dreaded mountain shoulder pads and Colorado-themed elements are more understated than most projected. As a whole, the jersey is plenty understated, and that’s a good thing, especially in this era of Nike making some appallingly over-complex looks.
That said, there are some legit flaws.
The striping on the back of the helmet looks pretty fugly. The fact the white helmet can only be paired with the navy jerseys is bizarre and dubious, as are some of the advertised helmet-jersey-pants combos. They updated the font everywhere except the nameplate on the front of the jersey, so now the fonts don’t match. The semi-gradient triangles within the numbers also seem foolish, though they’re thankfully pretty well hidden.
This is not a home-run design, like the one the rival Chargers received, but it’s a solid modernization that ties the old and the new together pretty well. Plus, we got the throwbacks everyone was clamoring for. I also love that the new look harkens back to the 1965 design that the Denver Broncos briefly wore.
It’s a “B” look, and, again, on the Nike curve, that’s an excellent outcome.
